BigSkySearch.info is a project of The Montana Policy Institute. MPI is a brand new, free-market think tank focused on taking on some of Montana’s biggest challenges. We’re a tax exempt, 501c(3) non-profit dedicated to giving citizens and policy leaders the best ideas — when, where and how they need them.
Our big idea? Putting more and more liberty in the hands of every Montanan. That’s what gets us up in the morning!
We want to give you and our state’ leaders the right information to argue for policies that are based on a respect for individual freedom, an expectation of individual responsibility, and a belief that government should be the last rather than the first resort when it comes to fixing what ails us. That’s how we look at the world, but even folks who don’t agree with those goals should still care about transparency. Let’s work together to make our government more accountable.
Since you asked, here are a few guiding principles that keeps our team focused and on mission:
First, we believe that all institutions have important, unique roles (voluntary, business, community, family, and government).
Second, we believe that every person has something important to contribute through their backgrounds, unique circumstances and goals. Commonsense right?
Third, we believe that all disciplines may hold policy solutions (science, economics, ethics, law, history…). To fix real problems, we have to go where the evidence leads.
Finally, we believe that all times matter. The decisions made today often have long-term consequences that are as or more important than short-term impacts. We can’t sleep through history!
